The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has recovered Tk 2 crore 53 lakh and 99,000 more of the robbed Tk 11.25 crore of Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd from a security company microbus in the capital’s Uttara.

Police also arrested eight people for their involvement in the robbery in separate raids in the capital’s Banani, Mirpur and Sylhet’s Sunamganj on Saturday, DB Chief and Additional Commissioner Harun-or-Rashid told journalists.

On Thursday night, Alamgir Hossain, director of Money Plant Link (Pvt) Ltd, the security company that was transporting the money, lodged the case accusing 10 to 12 unnamed people with Turag police station.

Later, the case was transferred to the Detective Branch.

Police detained seven people, including two directors of Money Plant, for questioning hours after the incident. They were released later.

Money Plant did not have any armed security personnel when they were carrying the money. They have been doing this for a long time without informing the police, he added.

DB chief Harun said that the gang members had been tracking the cash-carrying vehicles of Money Plant Link (Pvt) Limited for a long time.
