A Dhaka court has fined former Jatiya Sangsad speaker Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar Tk 27.86 lakh in a case filed over embezzling money by misusing his power.
Judge Prodip Kumar Roy of Dhaka Special Judge Court-7 on March 6 pronounced the verdict, asking the former speaker to deposit TK 27,86,364, which he embezzled by drawing as treatment cost, to the state exchequer.
The Anti-Corruption Commission on December 28, 2010, filed five separate cases against Sircar, former BNP secretary general Khandker Delwar Hossain, former deputy speaker Akhter Hamid Siddiqui and national parliament official Ashraful Islam.
The court in its order against Sircar said the convict would be exempted from other four cases when he would deposit the money fined in this case.
