3 held over Imtiaz murder

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch has arrested three alleged involvement with architect Imtiaz Mohammad Bhuiyan murder who remained missing from March 7.

The arrestees are – Millat Hossain Munna, 19, Anwar Hossain, 38, and Ehsaan alias Megh, 23. They were arrested in raids in Sirajganj, Dhaka’s Kalabagan and Narayanganj on Sunday, said DB’s Chief Harun-or-Rashid.

Police also seized a car which was used to transport the corpse, he claimed.

“In primary investigation after reports about architect Imtiaz missing and murder, we came to know that five people were involved in this incident,” Harun told the reporters on Monday at his DB office.

He said the DB is conducting operations to nab the remaining two – Arafat alias Faysal Ahmed Rahat alias Hridoy and Alif.

Harun also claimed that this group of five is an organised ring who kidnapped Imtiaz to extort money. They killed him failing to get the money and all the arrestees admitted their involvement in the incident, he added.

Police said that Imtiaz lived in the capital’s Tejgaon area with his family. He used to do architectural designs for various institutions. He went missing after leaving home on March 7.

Later, Imtiaz’s wife Fahmida Akhter filed a general dairy with Tejgaon Industrial Area police station. On the next day, the police found an unidentified body at Munshiganj’s Sirajdikhan.

But, the family did not know about that. After 10 days, the family came to know that Imtiaz was murdered when a report about his disappearance was broadcast on a private television. In the meantime, he was buried. Later, with the permission of the court, the body was recovered and identified by Imtiaz's relatives, Harun said.
