Testimony against Arav in arms case ends

A Dhaka Court on Tuesday completed recording statement of all prosecution witnesses in an arms case filed against Rabiul Islam alias Arav Khan.

Judge Murshid Ahammad of Special Tribunal-14 in Dhaka concluded recording the testimony of witnesses through recording the deposition of Investigation Officer Sheikh Hasan Muhammad Mostafa Sarwar, a sub-inspector of the Detective Branch of police, in the case.

The court also fixed April 13 for arguments in the case. A total of 10 prosecution witnesses including the complainant of the case testified before the court.

According to the case, Arav Khan went to the residence of his father-in-law Sekendar Ali at Moghbazar on January 28, 2015, to collect money at gunpoint. But Arav Khan was arrested from in front of the house by law enforcers. Police also recovered a revolver from him.

Later, a case was filed against him under the Arms Act with Ramna Police Station. Later, the DB submitted a charge sheet against him on March 1 of the same year.

Arav Khan got bail from the higher court on March 14, 2018, and went into hiding. The tribunal declared him a ‘fugitive’ in the case and issued an arrest warrant against him on October 24 of the same year.

Arav Khan, who runs a jewellery store in Dubai, is facing an Interpol red alert at present.

Arav Khan is also an accused in a case filed in connection with the murder of a police inspector in 2018.
