A Dhaka court on Thursday issued a warrant for the arrest of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College’s former principal Nazneen Ferdous and teacher Zinnat Ara in a case filed on charges of instigating class IX student Aritry Adhikary to take her own life.
Judge Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Session Judges Court issued the arrest warrant as the two accused did not appear before the court in the case.
The court also set April 18 to start recording deposition witnesses in the case.
Earlier, a Dhaka court framed charges against the accused on July 16, 2019, while the Detective Branch (DB) of police pressed charges against Nazneen Akhtar and Zinnat on March 20, the same year.
According to the case, Aritry was barred from a 2018 exam after she was found to be cheating by using a mobile phone. When Aritry took her parents to school, they were brought to the principal’s room, where they were insulted. The authorities also threatened her.
Later, Aritry entered her room and locked the door after returning home from school. Her body was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her room at the capital’s Shantinagar afterwards.
