People have to brace for the hot weather ahead as the mild heat wave sweeping over the Khulna division and other parts of the country including the capital, is likely to continue and spread further in the upcoming days.
The latest bulletin of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Friday said that a mild heat wave is sweeping over Khunla division and the regions of Dhaka, Tangail, Faridpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Sandwip, Rangamati, Feni, Bandarban, Patuakhali, Khepupara and Bhola and it may continue and spread.
BMD’s extended outlook for another five days predicted that day temperature may rise further.
Meanwhile, the sweltering heat has been already causing immense suffering to people amid the fasting month of Ramadan, especially to day labourers and lower waged people.
April is the second month of the three-month-long pre-monsoon season which is the warmest month of the year and growing even hotter due to climate change impacts in the recent years. The experts have suggested avoiding direct contact with sunlight during the mid-days and drinking or keeping an adequate amount of pure water to avoid heatstroke.
On Friday, Dhaka witnessed the maximum temperature of 36.5C, Rajshahi 37.5C, Rangpur 33.8C, Mymensingh 35C, Sylhet 34.8C, Chattogram 35.1C, Barishal 35.4 and highest 38.8C was recorded in Chuadanga of Khulna, met office stated.

About the synoptic situation, BMD said, that the trough of westerly low lies over West Bengal and adjoining area. Seasonal low lies over South Bay.
Across the globe, heat waves form when high pressure aloft strengthens and remains over a region for several days up to several weeks which is common in summer. Heatwaves have become more frequent and over land more intense, almost across the globe since the 1950s, due to climate change.
