The Inspector General of Police, Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, on Wednesday, called on Dhaka dwellers to remain cautious while leaving the city for village homes to celebrate Eid.
He suggested they should deposit valuables such as gold ornaments or cash amount of money with their relatives or take those with them instead of leaving those in an empty house.
The IGP made these remarks on Wednesday while inspecting the Eid journey of people returning home at Sayedabad Bus Terminal, Kamalapur Railway Station and Sadarghat Launch Terminal.
Mamun said that in the past years, people had suffered a lot by sitting in traffic jams on highways. In the meantime, the Padma Bridge has been opened and the roads in North Bengal have improved a lot, he said adding that there is no 8 to 10-hour traffic jam at Chandra now.
The IGP said that they talked to the transport operators and pressure on passengers is yet to take place. Intelligence agencies and law enforcement agencies are working together to ensure that passengers can travel safely to their respective destinations, he said.
He requested the homebound passengers not to eat anything offered by any stranger during their travel.
The IGP also said that the Highway Police are responsible for ensuring safety on the highways. Besides, other police units including the district police are working. If the cars and vehicles are driven recklessly, the police will take action.
Besides, there will be mobile courts in different places and they will also take action. Our campaign against unfit cars is ongoing, he said.
