ACC probe finds proof of WASA MD Taqsem’s graft

The Anti-Corruption Commission found proof of corruption against ten people including Dhaka WASA Managing Director Taqsem A Khan in recruitment of two officials.

ACC Deputy Director Syed Nazrul Islam, also the inquiry officer, submitted a report to the commission with a recommendation to file a case against 10 people including Taqsem A Khan, said ACC officials.

After investigating an allegation related to the appointment of two contractual officials, the report has been submitted to the ACC. Now the case will be filed following the approval of the commission.

Dhaka WASA organogram mentions no posts of Director (Development) and Director (Technical) but the clique appointed two individuals on a contractual basis, the probe found. Later, they were paid Tk 1.98 crore as salary and allowance from April 4, 2018, to August 2022.

ACC investigation has revealed that the amount of money has been embezzled through the illegal hiring.

The chairman and the members of the board of directors of Dhaka WASA in collusion with each other appointed the two persons of their own choice on a contractual basis without creating any valid post in Dhaka WASA outside the organogram and without following the rules and regulations related to recruitment.

The 252nd Board meeting of the WASA appointed Abul Kasem as Director (Development) and AKM Sahid Uddin as Director (Technical).
