BNP leader Salahuddin can return anytime: MoFA

BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed can return home at any time from India’s Shillong, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday.

Director General (Acting) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rafiqul Alam at a news briefing said the government is working on the return of Salahuddin Ahmed.

Rafiqul Alam said the home ministry has approved Salahuddin Ahmed’s request to allow him to return home and the foreign ministry has contacted the Bangladesh Mission in Guwahati, Assam in this regard.

Earlier, BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed was acquitted by Meghalaya’s Shillong Judge’s Court in the case of trespassing into India.

On March 10, 2015, Salahuddin Ahmed went missing from Uttara in capital. On May 11, after 63 days disappearance, local police of Shillong in India rescued Salahuddin and admitted him to a mental hospital there. The next day he was admitted to Shillong Civil Hospital.
