Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has highlighted the importance of upholding the true spirit of multilateralism for the greater benefit of the global community.
Addressing the G20 Development Minister's Meeting (G20 DMM) in Varanasi of India on Monday, he emphasised the challenges faced by countries in the global south and called for support from developed nations in areas such as implementation, financing, and capacity building.
Dr Momen also showcased Bangladesh's progress under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, particularly in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), green development, and initiatives promoting an environmentally conscious lifestyle. These efforts demonstrate Bangladesh's commitment to sustainable development and the preservation of the environment.
On the sidelines of the G20 DMM, Foreign Minister Momen met with his Indian counterpart, Dr S Jaishankar, expressing satisfaction with the excellent bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India. They discussed matters of mutual interest and upcoming important events. Dr Momen commended India for successfully leading the G20 meetings and acknowledged its role in addressing global challenges during its G20 presidency.
Additionally, Foreign Minister Momen met with Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office of Singapore, and Isobel Coleman, Deputy Administrator of USAID.
During his meeting with the Singaporean minister, Dr Momen emphasised the need to expand cooperation between Bangladesh and Singapore, particularly in the employment sector.
In his discussion with Isobel Coleman, he stressed the importance of the robust partnership between Bangladesh and USAID, which has spanned over five decades.
During both meetings, Foreign Minister Momen sought support for the early and sustainable repatriation of all displaced Rohingyas to their homeland in Myanmar's Rakhine State. This remains a pressing issue, and Bangladesh seeks the assistance and collaboration of international partners to address this humanitarian crisis.
