In line with achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the government is working to ensure proper use of money in public procurement through transparency and accountability in a digital manner, said Planning Ministry’s Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) Director Md Aknur Rahman on Tuesday.
Aiming to ensure transparency, Electronic Government Procurement or e-GP Portal was launched in 2011 and the government is implementing e-GP as part of building Digital Bangladesh which will play an effective role in building a Smart Bangladesh, he said.
The CPTU director (joint secretary) under the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED), came up with the remarks at a workshop of the Government-Tenderers’ Forum (GTF) as the chief guest in Magura.
Magura’s Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Mohammed Abu Naser Beg presided over the event held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
Bangladesh Center for Communication Programmes (BCCP) organised the workshop under the Digitizing Implementation Monitoring and Public Procurement Project (DIMAPP) of CPTU supported by the World Bank.
Dr Zeenat Sultana, programme director of BCCP delivered the welcome speech and a presentation on GTF at the workshop where district GTF members were present and shared important views. Mohammad Abdus Salam, program officer of BCCP moderated the event.
Highlighting the importance of GTF in the implementation of e-GP, Aknur Rahman said that procuring entities and the tenderers resolve matters with mutual discussions when any problem occurs.
Highlighting the progress of e-GP in a decade, he said, “Since 2011, the number of tenders called in e-GP has exceeded 6.89 lahks and more than 106,190 bidders have been registered in e-GP while some 1,437 procuring entities have been registered with e-GP.”
Magura’s Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Mohammad Abu Naser Baig said GTF is an integrated platform of procurement entities and tenderers which creates an environment of cooperation between the two key stakeholders on various aspects of public procurements and accelerates the most important work of the development projects.
