Additional Inspector General of Highway Police Md Shahabuddin Khan on Wednesday said that vehicles carrying sacrificial animals should not be stopped on the highway unless there is a specific complaint.
During a coordination meeting held on Wednesday morning at the conference room of the Armed Police Battalion headquarters in Dhaka’s Uttara, Shahabuddin issued a warning regarding the safety and traffic congestion on the highways during Eid-ul-Azha.
Businessmen have alleged that certain groups are extorting money from sacrificial cattle carrying trucks on the roads. They also claimed that they are being forced to unload the animals to certain markets against their will. They have requested action to address this issue.
In response to these allegations, Shahabuddin said that people of the cattle market cannot force or obstruct vehicles from entering the market. To ensure transparency, every vehicle transporting animals must display its destination banner on their front and rear.
Shahuddin assured passengers and those involved in transportation that there will be no chance of extortion.
Regarding the allegation of drug transportation in animal carrying trucks, he assured that there will be specific monitoring to prevent drug dealers from taking advantage of such situations. Vigilance and supervision will be maintained to ensure that drug-related activities are deterred.
