A Dhaka court has issued a warrant for the arrest of celebrated British-Bangladeshi chef Tommy Miah and his company’s managing director Tajul Islam in a case filed over fraud.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mahabub Ahmed on Tuesday issued the arrest warrant after a hearing in the case, said the plaintiff’s lawyer Md Rubel Mia.
On June 26, Tommy Miah’s Hospitality Management Institute’s former marketing advisor SM Ali Zaker filed the case with Dhaka Metropolitan Chief Magistrate Court.
After recording the statement of the plaintiff, the court summoned the accused to appear before the court but they did not appear.
According to the case statement, Ali Zaker was appointed at Tommy Miah’s Hospitality Management Institute on a contractual basis as a marketing adviser on December 29, 2021. He worked for four months, from January 1 to April 30.
However, the accused did not pay the Tk 4.28 lakh owed to him as per the contract.
Apart from this, the plaintiff also received death threats when he asked for his dues on March 29, according to the case statement.
Following the death threats, he filed a general diary with Banani police station in the capital. Earlier, Ali Zaker also sent a legal notice to the accused on June 1 seeking his dues.
