ICT cancels bail of Jashore war crimes suspect

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 on Wednesday cancelled bail of a man, accused of committing crimes against humanity in Jashore in 1971, for threatening witnesses in the case.

The ICT-1 panel headed by Justice Md Shahinur Islam passed the order, allowing a prosecution plea for canceling bail of Md Amzad Hossain Mollah.

Prosecutor Rezia Sultana Chemon moved the plea before the court, while Advocate MH Tamim argued for the accused.

Amzad, an alleged Razakar commander from Bagharpara, Jashore, is accused of committing crimes against humanity like confinement, torture and murder.

The probe body of the ICT on April 16, 2018, published its report against five accused including Md Amzad Hossain Mollah, who was active in the politics of pro-Pakistan Muslim League in 1971. Amzad and his men are accused of abducting and murdering Md Moyenuddin alias Moyna and Md Ayenuddin for helping Freedom Fighters.

Amzad is also accused of murdering Dr Nowfel Uddin in village Uttor Chandpur under Bagharpara for treating pro-liberation people and Freedom Fighters. They are also accused of killing Subroto Ali Biswas and Mukter Biswas in village Gaidghat and Rojob Ali Biswas in Simakhali under Shalitha Police Station in Magura.

International Crimes Tribunal-1 framed charges against Md Amzad Hossain Mollah, Md Ohab Mollah, Md Mahatab Biswas, Md Fasiar Rahman Mollah and Md Nowsher Biswas for five counts of crimes against humanity.
