No need for coaching under new curriculum: Dipu Moni

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Sunday said that there will be no need for coaching centres for students after the introduction of the new curriculum next year.

“Coaching is required now. As there are so many pupils in the class, the teacher can’t provide each one of them with individual attention. But I’m hoping that the new curriculum won’t call for coaching,” she added.

“There is a need for coaching in some cases. Some students may not understand properly in the class, and then they can go for coaching while parents have an obsession for GPA-5 and that’s why, there has a practice of going to the coaching centres, whether it is necessary or not.”

The minister came up with remarks while talking to journalists after visiting the examination centre of Begum Badrunnessa Government Girls College in Dhaka.

She said, “In the case of the new education system, students may not need to go to a coaching centre because they will learn through practical activities.”

However, the practice of going to coaching centres cannot be stopped forcibly or by imposing laws and the ministry or the board cannot stop it alone, the cooperation of the local administration is also required, the minister said

The minister also said action will be taken if there is an attempt to leak questions during the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations.

“There was an attempt to leak questions in Bhuruingamari of Kurigram during the SSC examination. We have taken action after analysing the event. If someone tries to leak the question somewhere, we will all prevent it,” she said

Technical board postpones 2 HSC exams

Bangladesh Technical Education Board postponed Sunday’s Bangla first part of HSC exams for both new and old syllabuses due to printing mistakes in question papers.

The exams were set to be held from 2:00pm to 4:00pm under the technical education board.

Prof Tapan Kumar Sarkar, president of the inter-education board coordination committee and chairman of Dhaka Education Board said the new date of the exam will be announced soon.

Sources said in some centres it was found that students following the old syllabus got questions made for the new syllabus while candidates of the new syllabus got question papers of the old syllabus.
