100 more govt hospitals getting pvt practice

Doctors in one hundred more government hospitals in the country will begin private practice at their respective institutions within the next week, said Health Minister Zahid Maleque.

He made the disclosure at a meeting held to mark the National Health and Welfare Day 2023, at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

Maleque added, “Patients are currently getting afternoon healthcare from specialist doctors at 51 government hospitals. We have observed that the people are satisfied with the arrangement, and the doctors are happy too.

“Taking this into consideration, we have decided to increase the scope of this initiative. One hundred more hospitals are getting this facility within the next week.”

He further said, “Bangladesh has received 11 lakh bivalent vaccines from the World Health Organisation (WHO) to help fight the Covid-19, along with Omicron and Delta viruses. The organisation has also promised to provide another 20 lakh doses of the bivalent vaccine.

“We will provide the doses as booster shots soon.”

Health Directorate Director General Prof Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam president over Tuesday’s meeting, while Healthcare Division Secretary Dr Md Anwar Hossain Hawladar and Medical Education and Family Welfare Division Secretary Md Azizur Rahman spoke among many others.
