Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) has said that some 20 per cent of the newly detected Covid-19 patients across the country were found to be infected by the Omicron variant.

BSMMU made the announcement during a press briefing on Tuesday, citing statistics of samples tested from December 8, 2021 till January 8, 2022.

“However Delta is the most prominent variant in the country right now. 80 per cent of the cases are Delta,” BSMMU VC Professor Sharfuddin Ahmed said.
