Bangladesh reported one new coronavirus-related death and 557 infections in a 24-hour period till 8:00am on Sunday.

The positivity rate during this period marginally increased to 2.91 per cent from Saturday's 2.43 per cent.

In Bangladesh, the daily-case positivity rate reached its peak 32.55 per cent on July 24 last year.

The overall caseload now stands at 15,86,466 and the total fatalities at 28,077 according to the press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 19,130 samples at 852 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 1,15,25,832 samples.

Meanwhile, 253 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24-hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,49,557.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 last year and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 the same year.

Meanwhile, the global Covid-19 caseload reached 289,297,555 and the death toll to 5,440,715 till Sunday morning, according to US-based Johns Hopkins University (JHU) update.
