Covid-19: Daily infection rate surges to 7.38% after 17 weeks

Bangladesh on Sunday registered 596 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the highest in 15 weeks. Meanwhile, the daily infection rate jumped to 7.38 per cent, the highest since February 20 this year.

The country recorded no Covid-related death over the same period, keeping the tally at 29,131.

On Saturday, the positivity rate was at 5.94 per cent.

With the fresh infections, the total caseload reached 19,56,327, according to the daily virus update by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 8,074 samples at 880 laboratories across the country.

Meanwhile, 49 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24 hours, raising the overall recovery to 19,05,807.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8, 2020, and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 of the same year.
