Covid: Daily positivity rate drops to 21.5%

Bangladesh on Saturday recorded another 8,345 new cases of Covid-19, with the country’s daily test positivity rate dropping slightly to 21.50 per cent. 

In the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) also recorded 29 more coronavirus related deaths, taking the total death toll from the deadly virus in the country to 28,589.

Bangladesh’s total number of positive cases now stands at 18,61,532 since the country first detected Covid patient on March 8, 2020.

On Saturday, the positivity rate was at 23.83 per cent.

The daily case positivity rate reached its peak of 33.37 per cent on January 28 this year.

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 38,821 samples at 868 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 1,27,26,409 samples.

Meanwhile, 8,159 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24 hours, raising the overall recovery to 16,02,550.

The test positivity rate has been witnessing an upward trend since the start of the New Year, rising from 2.43 per cent on January 1.

Among the new deceased, 15 were men and 14 women.

Twenty fourteen deaths were reported in the Dhaka division, four in Chattogram, one in Rajshahi, four in Khulna, one in Sylhet, three in Rangpur, and two in Mymensingh.
