Covid: Daily positivity rate drops to 27.43%, death toll rises

Bangladesh on Wednesday recorded another 12,193 new cases of Covid-19, with the country's daily test positivity rate declining slightly to 27.43 per cent.

In the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) also recorded 36 more coronavirus related deaths, taking the total death toll from the deadly virus in the country to 28,461.

Bangladesh’s total number of positive cases now stand at 18,24,180 since the country first detected Covid patient on March 8, 2020.

On Tuesday, the positivity rate was at 29.17 per cent.

The daily case positivity rate reached its peak of 33.37 per cent on January 28 this year.

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 44,451 samples at 867 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 1,25,68,226 samples.

Meanwhile, 4,203 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24 hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,75,137.

The test positivity rate has been witnessing an upward trend since the start of the New Year, rising from 2.43 per cent on January 1.

Among the new deceased, 17 were men and 19 women.

Thirteen deaths were reported in Dhaka division, five in Chattogram, six in Rajshahi, seven in Khulna and one in Sylhet divisions.

Meanwhile, the mortality rate further declined to 1.56 per cent. However, the recovery rate also declined to 86.35 per cent.
