Covid: Daily positivity rate drops to 13.53%

Bangladesh on Monday recorded another 4,692 new cases of Covid-19, with the country’s daily test positivity fell slightly to 13.53 per cent.

In the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said 19 more coronavirus-related deaths were also recorded, taking the total death toll from the deadly virus in the country to 28,838.

Bangladesh’s total number of positive cases now stands at 19,14,356 since the country first detected Covid patient on March 8, 2020.

On Sunday, the positivity rate was at 14.85 per cent.

The daily case positivity rate reached its peak of 33.37 per cent on January 28 this year.

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 34,689 samples at 874 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 1,30,29,787 samples.

Meanwhile, 13,237 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24 hours, raising the overall recovery to 16,91,892.

The test positivity rate has been witnessing an upward trend since the start of the New Year, rising from 2.43 per cent on January 1.

Among the new deceased, 12 were men and 7 women.

Ten deaths were reported in the Dhaka division, three in Chattogram, two in Mymensingh, and one each in Khulna, Barishal, Sylhet and Rangpur.
