Covid: Daily positivity rate falls below 10%

Bangladesh on Friday recorded another 2,584 new cases of Covid-19, with the country’s daily test positivity falling to 9.31 per cent.

In the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said 19 more coronavirus-related deaths were also recorded, taking the total death toll from the deadly virus in the country to 28,931.

Bangladesh’s total number of positive cases now stands at 19,29,154 since the country first detected Covid patients on March 8, 2020.

On Thursday, the positivity rate was at 10.24 per cent.

The daily case positivity rate reached its peak of 33.37 per cent on January 28 this year.

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 27,765 samples at 874 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 1,31,58,768 samples.

Meanwhile, 9,988 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24 hours, raising the overall recovery to 17,37,854.

The test positivity rate has been witnessing an upward trend since the start of the New Year, rising from 2.43 per cent on January 1.

Among the new deceased, 17 were men and 7 women.

Fourteen deaths were reported in the Dhaka division, three each in Chattogram and Sylhet, two in Rajshahi, and one each in Khulna and Rangpur.
