Covid: Five more die in 24hrs

Bangladesh recorded five new Covid-related deaths and 491 cases in the last 24 hours till Friday morning.

With the fresh casualties, the overall death toll rose to 29,380.

Earlier on September 26, the country in a 24-hour span recorded six Covid-related deaths, the highest since July 21.

Meanwhile, the daily infection rate declined slightly to 10 per cent as the health authorities tested 4,912 samples at 882 laboratories across the country.

On Thursday, the test positivity rate was 10.76 per cent.

With the fresh infections, the total caseload reached 20,29,015, according to the daily virus update by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Besides, 701 patients recovered from the infection over the last 24 hours, pushing the overall recovery to 19,68,654.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8, 2020, and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 of the same year.
