Covid: Daily positivity rate falls to 14.85%, death rises to 28

Bangladesh on Sunday recorded another 4,838 new cases of Covid-19, with the country’s daily test positivity fell slightly to 14.85 per cent.

In the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said 28 more coronavirus-related deaths were also recorded, taking the total death toll from the deadly virus in the country to 28,819.

Bangladesh’s total number of positive cases now stands at 19,09,664 since the country first detected Covid patient on March 8, 2020.

On Saturday, the positivity rate was at 16.5 per cent.

The daily case positivity rate reached its peak of 33.37 per cent on January 28 this year.

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 32,574 samples at 874 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 1,29,95,098 samples.

Meanwhile, 13,853 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24 hours, raising the overall recovery to 16,78,655.

The test positivity rate has been witnessing an upward trend since the start of the New Year, rising from 2.43 per cent on January 1.

Among the new deceased, 20 were men and 8 women.

12 deaths were reported in the Dhaka division, two in Chattogram, four in Rajshahi, six in Khulna, two in Rangpur, and one each in Barishal and Sylhet.
