In the wake of a surge in daily Covid infections, employees of all sub-divisions and organisations under the Ministry of Public Administration have been asked to wear masks.

Heads of all offices under the ministry's jurisdiction were asked to ensure mask-wearing among the employees through a notification issued Tuesday.

Employees have also been requested to follow health guidelines.

Bangladesh on Tuesday registered 874 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, the daily infection rate jumped to 11.03 per cent.

The country recorded one Covid-related death over the same period, raising the tally to 29,133.

Earlier, at a virtual meeting on Tuesday night, the National Technical Advisory Committee (NTAC) suggested six measures, including making the wearing of face masks mandatory outside of the home and strict enforcement of the “No Mask, No Service” policy, to tackle the rising infection rate.

Urging people to maintain social distance and avoid all types of public gatherings, the committee also asked the government to take necessary preventative measures at all air, land and seaports.

It said that carrying Covid-19 negative and vaccination certificates could be made mandatory again for incoming passengers. Those who are yet to receive the second and booster doses of the Covid vaccine should be urged to take it as soon as possible.
