Daily Covid-19 death toll rises to 36

Bangladesh on Saturday recorded another 8,359 new cases of Covid-19, with the country's daily test positivity rate rose slightly to 23.83 per cent.

In the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) also recorded 36 more coronavirus related deaths, taking the total death toll from the deadly virus in the country to 28,560.

Bangladesh’s total number positive cases now stand at 18,53,187 since the country first detected Covid patient on March 8, 2020.

On Friday, the positivity rate was at 22.95 per cent.

The daily case positivity rate reached its peak of 33.37 per cent on January 28 this year.

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 35,074 samples at 868 laboratories across the country. Bangladesh has so far tested 1,26,87,588 samples.

Meanwhile, 7,017 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24 hours, raising the overall recovery to 15,94,391.

The test positivity rate has been witnessing an upward trend since the start of the New Year, rising from 2.43 per cent on January 1.

Among the new deceased, 21 were men and 15 women.

Twenty five deaths were reported in Dhaka division, two in Chattogram, one in Rajshahi, three in Khulna, one in Sylhet, two in Rangpur, and two in Mymensingh.
