Daily Covid cases cross 1,100 after 116 days

Bangladesh on Wednesday registered 1,135 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the highest in nearly four months. Meanwhile, the daily infection rate jumped to 13.30 per cent.

The country recorded one Covid-related death over the same period, raising the tally to 29,134.

On Tuesday, the positivity rate was at 11.03 per cent.

With the fresh infections, the total caseload reached 19,59,209, according to the daily virus update by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 8,536 samples at 880 laboratories across the country.

Meanwhile, 122 patients recovered from the deadly infection in the last 24 hours, raising the overall recovery to 19,06,105.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8, 2020, and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 of the same year.
