Dengue: One patient dies, 20 hospitalised in 24hrs

One patient died of dengue while 20 new patients were admitted to different hospitals across the country during the past 24 hours till 8am on Monday.

“As many as nine dengue patients were hospitalised in Dhaka city, and 11 patients were admitted to different hospitals outside Dhaka during the last 24 hours,” read a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) press release.

“One death from dengue was reported for the first time this year, while 269 dengue patients died last year,” the release added.

With the new cases, the total number of patients rose to 289 this year, while some 118 patients were released from the hospitals.

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne illness that occurs in tropical and subtropical areas of the world. The outbreak of the disease is usually seasonal, peaking during and after rainy seasons.

The World Health Organization (WHO) classifies dengue as one of the top 10 threats to public health.
