Covid: Five more die in 24hrs after 55 days

Bangladesh on Tuesday recorded five new Covid-related deaths in a 24-hour span, the highest since July 27. With the casualties, the overall death toll stood at 29,345.

The country also registered 614 fresh Covid-19 cases over the 24 hours, while the daily infection rate rose to 12.73 per cent.

The health authorities reported the latest figures after testing 4,825 samples at 881 laboratories across the country.

On Monday, the test positivity rate was 11.60 per cent.

With the fresh infections, the total caseload reached 20,18,829, according to the daily virus update by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Meanwhile, 283 patients recovered from the infection over the last 24 hours and with this the overall recovery reached 19,61,260.

Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8, 2020, and the first coronavirus-related death on March 18 of the same year.
