Additional Director General (ADG) of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Ahmedul Kabir has been designated to perform routine duties (administrative and financial expenditure) of the directorate till a Director General (DG) is appointed.
The DG position of the directorate has remained vacant since January 1 this year, as the tenure of former DG Professor Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam ended on the last day of 2022, read a Ministry of Health and Family Affair gazette notification issued Monday.
As per the notification, signed by Health Services Division Senior Assistant Secretary Md Alamgir Kabir, the ADG will also be given responsibilities of the Drawing and Disbursing Officer to manage important financial activities, with the permission to perform routine duties of the DG.
Prof Khurshid was appointed as the DG on July 26, 2020, when the former DG Prof Dr Abul Kalam Azad resigned following criticism over mismanagement and corruption in the health sector during the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic.
After being appointed for one year in 2020, Prof Khurshid was later reappointed as the DG for two more years until December 2022.
Prof Dr Ahmedul joined DGHS as ADG (administration) on November 11, 2022. He served as the principal of Mugda Medical College previously from the middle of 2020.
