Bangladesh supersedes China with 84,379 confirmed cases 

Bangladesh has superseded China as the epicentre of the coronavirus with 84,379 confirmed cases, according to the latest statistics of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

As per regular online briefing of the DGHS, the total number of cases in Bangladesh reached 84,379 as of Saturday (June 13). On the other hand, despite having a population nine times higher than Bangladesh, the number of Covid-19 infected people in China stands at 83,075.

On Saturday, Bangladesh also reported 44 deaths from coronavirus over the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll to 1,139.

In Bangladesh, 17,827 infected people have so far recovered from the disease – the recovery rate is merely 21.13 percent.  

On the other hand, a total of 4,634 people died from coronavirus in China while 78,367 people recovered. The recovery rate is 94 percent in China.     

The global death toll from the novel coronavirus infection reached 425,330 as of Saturday (June 13) morning, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally. So far, 7,629,227 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.

Bangladesh reported its first confirmed Covid-19 case on March 8. Later, on March 18, the country announced its first death from coronavirus infection.
