Coronavirus: Record 1,873 new positive cases with 20 deaths

Bangladesh on Saturday (May 23) reported 20 deaths over the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 452. Besides, record 1,873 more people tested positive, which makes 32,078 confirmed cases in total.

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Saturday.

Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 9977 samples were collected and 10834 tested in the last 24 hours.

So far, a total of 2,34,675 samples have been tested in the country.

With 296 new recoveries, a total of 6486 patients recovered from coronavirus till date.

The deceased, of whom 16 were identified males and 4 females, belonged to the following age groups: two were between 21-30 years, three between 31-40, three between 41-50, eight were aged between 51-60, three between 61-70, and one between 71-80.

15 breathed their last at various hospitals, 4 at home and one was brought to a hospital dead.

Division-wise, 4 hailed from Dhaka division, 8 from Chattogram division and 2 from Rangpur division, 2 from Mymensingh, 2 from Rajshahi, 1 from Sylhet, 1from Khulna.

Meanwhile, global deaths from the novel coronavirus infection reached 328,095 as of Saturday morning, according to the data provided by Johns Hopkins University.

So far, 5,210,065 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.

Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.

Among the currently 2,805,429 infected patients, 2,760,845 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent, Worldometer records in its daily updates.

On the other hand, 44,584 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only two.

So far, 2,169,179 people have recovered.
