Dengue: Bangladesh sees significant improvement

Bangladesh is seeing a gradual fall in dengue cases with the health authorities confirming no new cases in 24 hours until Sunday morning.

Currently only one dengue patient is receiving treatment at a hospital, the Directorate General of Health Services said.

The health authorities reported 38 dengue cases since January, and 37 patients have recovered so far.

This year no dengue-related death has been reported.

Since January last year, health authorities reported 1,231 dengue cases with 1,156 recoveries until December 4.

Reports of seven dengue-related deaths were sent to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) while it reviewed four cases and confirmed three dengue deaths.

According to official figures, 101,354 dengue cases and 179 deaths were recorded in Bangladesh 2019 when a massive outbreak of dengue pushed the healthcare system to its limits.
