Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) authorities said on Wednesday they have received applications of a total of 12,543 private hospitals and diagnostic centres seeking renewal of licences.
The DGHS also told the court that it is still unaware of how many private hospitals in the country are currently running activities without valid licenses.
However, the DGHS said it has published the lists of Covid-19 dedicated hospitals and non-Covid hospitals on its website.
The organisation under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare submitted the information to the High Court bench of Justice Tariq ul Hakim and Justice SM Kuddus Zaman during a hearing on a writ petition on Wednesday.
Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Ishrat Hasan confirmed the information to The Business Post.
On August 31, the HC ordered the authorities concerned to let it know the number of private hospitals having licences and also those, whose licences were under process. The court also asked the prosecution to provide a report on this by September 2.
On Wednesday, Barrister Abdul Halim and Advocate Ishrat Hasan stood for the plea at the court while Deputy Attorney General Amit Das Gupta stood for the state.
Later, the HC bench dropped the writ petition from its cause-list.
