Eskayef produces first batch of coronavirus drug

Eskayef or SK-F Pharmaceutical Limited has completed production of the first batch of potential coronavirus drug 'Remdesivir' within 7 days of receiving permission from the drug administration.

The director of the company, Mohammad Mostafa Hassan confirmed the matter to The Business Post. He said after completing all the production processes, preparations are now underway to market the drug.

'Remdesivir', one of the most promising treatments for Covid-19 developed by Gilead Sciences, will possibly cost Tk 5000-6000 per vial at the country level, according to several pharmaceutical officials.

On May 3, the Directorarte Genereal of Drug Administration (DGDA) permitted six pharmaceutical companies to manufacture this possible coronavirus drug 'Remdesivir' in the country. The companies are Beximco, SK-F, Incepta, Square, Beacon and Healthcare.

In the meantime, the work of Beximco as well has come a long way. Of those, drug produced by Eskayef (SK-F) is expected to hit the market by the 18th this month and the other may release the drug within this month, according to a source at the DGDA.
