Police on Friday recovered goods which were looted from a quarantined cruise ship anchored at Mongla Seaport.
The foreign cruise ship, MV Fazah-1, from the United Arab Emirates was put on quarantine at the seaport on July 18 after eight of its passengers tested positive for Covid-19.
Later, a group of pirates from Mongla’s Chandpai union looted valuables while raiding the ship several times at the seaport.
“After being informed by locals, we raided several local houses along the Pashur River and the seaport and recovered some of the stolen goods on Friday morning. Nobody has been arrested yet in this connection,” said Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Mongla police station.
Meanwhile, the eight Covid-19 positive seamen, mostly Philippine nationals, were sent to Khulna’s Gazi Medical College Hospital.
The other passengers on the ship were Indians, Russians and Ukrainians. They were sent to 15-day quarantine in nearby hospitals, confirmed police officials.
Police also issued an order to anchor the good-laden ship along the seaport for 15-days.
