Bangladesh Coast Guard officials have seized an Indian fishing trawler and detained 13 fishermen for illegally intruding into Bangladesh water territory.

Confirming the matter, Bangladesh Coast Guard Media Officer Lt Commander Amirul Haque said that a patrol vessel CGS Shonar Bangla of their Mongla station detained the Indians for illegally fishing in the Bay of Bengal at the early hours of Sunday.

“Patrol vessel Shonar Bangla was patrolling in the deep sea and spotted the trawler with 13 Indian fishermen fishing in the waters of Bangladesh inside 15.4 nautical miles of Bangladesh-India water territory,” Amirul said.

“As the Indian fishermen did not adhere to the Coast Guard’s repeated warnings, they chased the Indian trawler. They detained them near 15.4 nautical miles from Mongla Fairway Buoy,” he added.

The fishermen with Indian IDs were later handed over to the Mongla police station.
