Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, VAT collection at Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate in Cumilla has increased by around 11 per cent in the last fiscal year (FY21) as it totaled Tk 3,225.17 crore from six districts under the jurisdiction of this Commissionerate.
The revenue collection under Cumilla Commissionerate was Tk 2,910.60 crore in the previous fiscal year (FY20). So, the revenue collection at Cumilla Commissionerate witnessed 10.81 percent growth in the last fiscal year.
Cumilla Commissionerate Commissioner Mohammad Belal Hossain Chowdhury said that there is no such big industry in Cumilla side by side the ongoing COVID-19 situation is a barrier towards realizing revenue.
“But, we’ve gained results since motivational activities were undertaken from the beginning of the last fiscal year. As a result, revenue collection was much higher in the last fiscal year compared to any other previous fiscal.”
Belal also said the Cumilla Commissionerate had put emphasis on realizing all arrears, distributed awards among the best performing officials in recognition of their good work and thus took a tough stance to check VAT evasion.
Meanwhile, the Cumilla Commissionerate is also ahead of any other Commissionerate in terms of submitting VAT returns through online as some 96 percent taxpayers submitted their VAT returns there through online in the last fiscal year (FY21).
