Aus paddy harvesting nears completion in Panchagarh district as farmers and Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) officials are happy to see its bumper production.

DAE office sources said Aus cultivation is lucrative for the farmers as it needs less expense. Farmers can plant Aus seedlings after harvesting Boro paddy and T- Aman after harvesting Aus paddy, they said.

About 20 maund Aus paddy can be produced from one bigha of land. Farmer Golam Kibria of Soundordigi village said he has cultivated BREE-82 variety on three bighas of land and got 50 maund of paddy.

Per maund Aus paddy is being sold at TK 550 to 600 in the local hat.

“I have earned money Tk 25 thousands after meeting all expenditure. I have got an extra income of Tk 6,000 by selling Aus straw,” he also said.

Deputy Director of DAE Md. Mizanur Rahman told BSS that 500 hectares of land have been brought under Aus cultivation this year with the production target of 2800 metric tonnes of paddy.
