Aush output makes Narail farmers happy

Excellent output of Aush rice makes farmers happy as harvest of the crop continues in full swing in all three upazilas of the district during the current season.

Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) officials said the DAE had fixed a target of bringing 9,358 heaters of land under Aush rice cultivation to produce over 17,844 tonnes of clean rice in the district during the season.

“Farmers have finally cultivated Aush rice on 9,000 hectares of land, less by only 358 hectares against the fixed farming target this season in Sadar, Lohagara and Kalia upazilas of the district,” Sub-Assistant agriculture officer of DAE Nipu Majumder said.

Deputy Director of DAE Dipok Kumar Ray said the cultivation and production of Aush rice continues increasing consistently in the district.

Cultivation and production of Aush rice is increasing as a result of various pragmatic steps taken by the government like distribution of intensives in terms of quality seeds and fertilisers, motivational campaigns and providing technical support to farmers, he said.

Production of Aush rice increased constantly during the last years in the district contributing to ensuring food security amid adverse impacts of climate change, he added.

DAE office sources said farmers have finally cultivated Aush rice on 4,400 hectares of land in Sadar upazila, 1,510 hectares in Lohagara upazila and 3,090 hectares in sadar upazila.
