Farmers get bumper Aush yield in Jamalpur

Farmers in Jamalpur district got bumper production of Aush paddy with a yield of 10,707 tonnes of rice this year.

Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) office sources said farmers already completed harvesting the crop on August 25.

The office said the crop has economically benefitted farmers comprehensively as they cultivated it spending less cost.

It said the peasants did not pay for irrigation while using fertiliser at a very limited scale as the soil remained fertile after harvesting Boro.

Sources said that farmers got the excellent production of Aush due to favourable weather and in the absence of pest attack amid three years.

Farmers cultivated Aush on 4045 hectares of land with a production target of 10,611 tonnes of rice this Kharip-1 season. But, they surpassed the production target by 107 tonnes this year.

DAE office sources said farmers cultivated two varieties of Aush paddy, of which, high yielding variety on 3952 hectares with a production target of 10,493 tonnes and local on 93 hectares with a production target of 118 tonnes.

Against the target, farmers got high yielding variety rice of 10553.60 tonnes and local 153.56 tonnes, they said.

The government disbursed incentives to 6000 small and marginal farmers in the district to increase Aush production.

Under the stimulus, each farmer received five kilogrammes seeds, 20 kilogrammes Di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) and ten kilogrammes Muriate of potash (MOP) free of cost for cultivating Aush on one Bigha of land.

Additional Deputy Director of DAE Mohammad Shakhawat Ikram said after consecutive three years, farmers got a surplus yield of Aush paddy due to good weather and implementation of the incentive programme.
