Construction work of Lalanshah Park at Dargapara adjacent to the Padma River bank is progressing fast in Rajshahi city aimed at opening up a new horizon in recreation of people.
About 90% of the construction of the Park has already been completed.
Initiated by Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC), the park is being established with an estimated cost of around Tk 2.88 crore.
Now, this place has become an attractive tourist and recreational spot after the recently completed beautification project. Visitors are coming from different parts of the country, including the city dwellers to visit this place.
A couple named Afroza and Selim came to visit Padma riverbank after a long time and said, “We are amazed seeing positive changes in Rajshahi. People feel comfortable visiting here with family and friends.”
Some illegal establishments have been installed during the ongoing construction and some locals tie up their domestic animals near the riverbank. Due to these lots of plants died and got damaged. Later this came to the notice of the authorities.
On Tuesday morning, a team from Rajshahi City Corporation visited the riverbank and requested the locals to evict the illegal establishments on their own responsibility by August 31. Many illegal structures have already been removed.
During the visit, Panel Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation-1 Sariful Islam Babu, Secretary Mashiur Rahman, Executive Magistrate Muhammad Imranul Haque, Deputy Assistant Engineer Mokammel Ali and Deputy Assistant Engineer were present there.
Sariful Islam Babu, panel mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation, said: “Through this project boundary wall, railings surrounded by beautification grill, walkway, seating bench, cafeteria are being renovated. The road adjacent to Lalanshah embankment is being widened and sidewalks are under construction”.
In the meantime, one hanging over bridge has been constructed in the area adjacent to the shrine of Hazrat Shah Makhdum and another in the area adjacent to the Padma Garden. Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor A. H. M. Khairuzzaman Liton inaugurated the two over bridges at a cost of Tk 98.15 lakh on February 13 this year.
