A total of 162 volunteer women samity consisting around 5,670 women in Rajshahi were given worth TK 49.50 lakh aimed at improving their living and livelihood condition.
The samities registered to the Department of Women Affairs were given the bank cheques at a function held at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) on Thursday.
The Department of Women Affairs and District Administration jointly organised the programme. DC Abdul Jalil accompanied by Deputy Director of the Department of Women Affairs Shirin Shobnom distributed the bank cheques among the beneficiaries.
State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatunnesa Indira, MP, joined the programme virtually as chief guest saying the present government under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly for the development and empowerment of women.
She also said the government has also attained success in the field of establishing equal rights for women side by side with generating employment opportunities for them.
On the sideline of the programme, Shirin Shobnom said the department of women affairs has been working relentlessly for women empowerment through business promotion for them. Under the microcredit programme for making women self-employed, many of the beneficiaries were given small-loans worth.
Upazila level distressed and helpless women are being given loans from Tk 5,000 to Tk 15,000 each. The women are also being given training on various income-generating trades like sewing, embroidery, boutique and tailoring. Sewing machines are being distributed among the trained women.
Under the women income-generating training programme, women were imparted six-month motor driving training, computer servicing and vocational training on various trades.
