Child drowns in under-construction water tank

A speech-impaired child died after drowning in an under-construction tank at Charkhai Union of Beanibazar upazila in Sylhet district on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Samir Hossain, 9, son of local auto-rickshaw driver Gaus Uddin.

According to locals, Samir was roaming around Langlakona Government Primary School around 12 pm and fell in the waterlogged under-construction tank of a toilet of that school beside the road.

Locals spotted his body floating in the water and informed the police.

Officer-In-Charge of Beanibazar police station Hillol Ray said after recovering the body, it was handed over to the family without any autopsy upon their request.
