Coal-mine affected families seek damages

A total of 200 families, who are being affected by coal-mine in Parbatipur, have issued an ultimatum for pay their compensation by October 10.

They also demanded the compensation for damaging 15.58 acres of lands in Banshpurkur and Baiddynaour villages under Parbatipur upazila in Dinajpur district.

The president of committee for ‘lives and assets protection’ Md Rafiqul Islam made the announcement at a press briefing at Parbaitpur Press Club on Monday morning.

“If our demand will not meet within October 10 then will go for organising the tough movement from October to press home the demand,” he said.

Some 15.58 acres of lands was damaged while cracks also found in many houses and water lair lavel of river, canals,wells and ponds went to down due to extraction of coals in the mine near the two villages, he added.

The committee advisor Ibrahim Khalil said that coal mining authority issued two separate notifications to the villagers for land acquisition in 2020 but it was stopped without any cause and the land owners were also deprived from their payment against the lands.
