Lack of Maintenance and no repair in the past five years made the Birsrestha Ruhul Amin Road in Rupsha of Khulna unfit for vehicular movement.

The seven-kilometre-long road, stretching between Rupsha ferry point and Jabusa Bazar along the eastern bank of River Passur, is named after martyred war hero Birsrestha Ruhul Amin.

Along the road stretch, there are 15 shrimp processing factories, shrimp farms, ice factories, three primary schools, offices of the Coast Guard and other government agencies, and police camp. The memorial complexs of Birshreshtha Ruhul Amin and Bir Bikram Mahibullah are also few metres away.

The Local Government Engineering Department constructed the road and it fall under ‘Village Road-A Category’ and half of it still remains completely unpaved.

No renovation work has been done on the road since 2017, said the locals adding that long trailers of fish processors, heavy vehicles of the power plant and many other vehicles including trucks ply the road round the clock.

People from Char Rupsha, Bagmara, Jabusa areas use the road for transportation. Thousands of workers working for several companies have to move through the road at risk.

Khalil Ullah, a bus driver said it is very difficult to drive vehicle with passengers on the dilapidated road.

Sometimes, passengers fall down from the vehicle and get hurt, he said. He questioned why the authorities concerned are relactant to repair the road despite its importance for businesses.

Anwar, a regualer passenger on the road, said the road should be repaired immediately as it became unfit for the vehciles.

Kayes Ahmed, a CNG driver and also resident of Rupsha area, said it took 20 to 25 minutes to cross the road in a better condition, but now it takes almost an hour.

Big potholes developed on the four kilometers road from Rupsha ferry terminal. The road cannot be passed on foot as the big holes developed here and there.

LGED executive engineer Khulna office Kamruzzaman said, ‘’I have sent a report to the head office about the road.”
