Nurse ends life, husband detained

A nurse working at Beanibazar Health Complex in Sylhet allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her house, next to the medical facility, on Friday night.

The deceased Nabaneeta Das, 28, was originally from Sullah upazila of Sunamganj district. Her husband has been detained for questioning.

Hillol Roy, officer-in-charge of Beanibazar police station, said prima facie it seemed that Nabaneeta took her own life.

Sources told UNB that Nabaneeta, who had recently tied the knot with her former schoolmate, was upset with her married life due to frequent quarrels.

Police said they had sent the body to the Sylhet Osmani Medical College morgue for an autopsy.

Moazzem Ali Khan Chowdhury, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, said, “We are saddened by the news of the death of one of our health staff.”
