At least eight people were killed and ten injured in separate road accidents in Gaibandha and Dinajpur districts.

The accidents took place on Friday.

In Gaibandha, six people were killed and three others injured in a road accident in the Balkchar area on the Bogura-Rangpur Highway under Gobindaganj upazila of the district on Friday morning.

Police and local sources said the accident occurred when a passenger bus of ‘Hanif Paribahan’ coming from Dhaka rammed an auto-rickshaw in the area, leaving three auto-rickshaw passengers dead on the spot five others injured seriously.

Being informed, the Fire Service and Civil Defence station in Gobindaganj rushed to the spot and rescued them in cooperation with the locals and sent them to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex, where two succumbed to their injuries.

The identities of the victims could not be known immediately, but the bodies of the victims were kept on Gobindaganj Thana premises, said station in-charge Arif Anwar of the Gobindaganj Fire Service.

The driver and the helper of the bus managed to flee the scene after the incident, he added.

In Dinajpur, two people were killed and eight others injured in separate road accidents in the district on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Narayon Chandra Roy, son of Khokaram Roy of Chakarampur village, and Shasodhor Babu Roy of the area.

The first accident occurred when a speeding truck hit a rickshaw on the Dinajpur-Fhulbari Highway in the Pachbarirhat area of Fulbari upazila in the early hours.

While Narayon died on the spot, Shasodhor Roy succumbed to his injuries at Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim hospital around 9.30am.

The eight people were injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a truck in the Shibkuri area of Amtoli later in the morning. Of them, five injured were admitted to Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College, said the officer-in-charge of Chirirbandar police station.
