Educators stress on STEM-based education
A daylong seminar on STEM-based education is held in Sylhet– Zakir Hossain

Educators and administrators in Sylhet put emphasis on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) based education to meet the global challenges.

Speakers on Monday made the observations at the Grand View Hotel in the city in a daylong seminar styled ‘Strengthening US- Bangladesh sustainable Relationship by Developing Student-centered STEM Education’ a US Embassy supported programme in association with a non-government organisation – Education and Cultural Society.

STEM experts, scholars, researchers, curriculum experts, education officials under the Ministry of Education attended the seminar. Some 110 female secondary level science teachers from different educational institutes across the division joined the event.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of ICT and Education, Satyajit Ray Das attended the inauguration of the seminar as chief guest while Director American Center, US Embassy Dhaka, Sharlina Morgan attended as guest of honor with, Executive Director, ECS Kazi Nasrin Siddiqa in the chair.

English Language Programme Coordinator, U.S Embassy in Dhaka Shaon Karmakar and Outreach Coordinator, Education USA Student Advisor and Outreach Coordinator, U.S Embassy in Dhaka A.Q.M Musfiq Hasan were the guest speakers

The chief guest said women and girls’ empowerment is very important to ensure quality education and to reach the global targets. Both male and female students have equal access to education.

He urged the teachers to be sincere and dedicated to their profession to build up capacity and skills among the learners to cope with the future challenges of the world.
